Terms and Conditions
Promoter
The promoter of this event is Wixams News, a voluntary news outlet based in Wixams, Bedfordshire.
The Competition
The competition is titled ‘Wixams life through your lens’. To celebrate World Photography Day 2025 (19 August), residents of Wixams are invited to submit their favourite snapshots of life in the community. Wixams News will look to feature the best submissions in the next edition of Wixams News, and on the wixams.news website.
The person who submits the photo judged by Wixams News’ committee to be the most inspiring will have their photo featured on the cover of the next Wixams News edition and will win a prize of an instax mini 12™ instant camera in Clay White, with a 10-shot pack of instax™ Rainbow Instant Film. The prize has been gifted by local Wixams-based business, Dan James Media.
Participation
Submissions open at 12:00 UK time on 28th June 2025 and close at 23:59 on 30th September 2025 (the “Entry Period”). Entries received outside this timeframe will be disqualified. The competition is free to enter.
Eligibility
The competition is open to any Wixams resident. However, members of the immediate families or households of persons who are Wixams News committee members may participate but will not be eligible to win the competition or its prizes.
In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize you may win. Wixams News may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition. If you are under the age of 18, you must obtain written parental or guardian consent to enter and claim your prize. Wixams News may ask you to provide proof of age.
How to Enter
- Submit your photo(s) that have been taken within Wixams on your own phone or camera, and as a minimum your name, age, street name and email address, via the online submission form on the competition page on our website.
- File must be an image file (JPEG or PNG preferred), with a maximum size of 25MB.
- Confirm you have consent from all people featured in the photo.
- Consent this is your image and that you have the rights to share.
This information is mandatory and required to properly conduct the competition. Entries received without these details or consent may be rejected.
If you give your consent by ticking a specific box on the submission form, the submitted photo(s) may be displayed via print, web and social media with your first name and age.
By submitting a photo(s) via the submission form, you agree to take part in this competition and to be bound by these conditions of participation.
The photo(s) and the information submitted via the form will be stored and processed by Wixams News in accordance with these conditions of participation. For more information, please refer to the terms under the Data Privacy heading below.
We will not accept entries:
- that are automatically generated by computer;
- that we deem unsuitable or offensive or which violate applicable law. Examples are: photos that would infringe copyright, show forbidden content, are defamatory or humiliating or were submitted with bad intention such as to mob or bully people;
- that are incomplete or incorrect;
- where the photographer has not confirmed they have obtained consent from all parties pictured in the selfie.
We have no obligation to inform participants if an entry was not accepted and entered. Wixams News also reserves the right to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the competition.
Selection of winner
The photos submitted during the Entry Period will be judged by the Wixams News committee based on what they consider to be the most inspiring and unique content, and a winner will be selected. The decision of the judges and any decision of Wixams News regarding any other aspect of the competition (in all cases acting reasonably) will be final and binding on all participants. No correspondence will be entered into.
Prize
The following prize will be won by the chosen winner:
- an instax mini 12™ instant camera
- a 10-shot pack of instax™ Rainbow Instant Film
- their winning photo featured and credited on the front of the next Wixams News edition
The prize is non-transferable and there is no cash alternative. The prize is supplied by competition sponsor, Dan James Media (www.danjamesmedia.com). Wixams News reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond Wixams News’s control make it necessary to do so.
Winner Notification & Prize Claim
The winner will be contacted via the email address provided to notify them that they have won within 14 days after the Wixams News committee has made its selection.
To claim the prize, the winner must provide:
- full name, phone, and postal address; and
- consent to prize publication and prize acceptance.
So long as this response is received, the prize will be delivered free of charge to the Wixams address provided by the competition winner within 30 days of being notified of their win. The prize may not be claimed by a third party on the winner’s behalf, unless it is a parent or guardian of an entrant under the age of 18.
Wixams News will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner. In the event that any winner fails to respond to Wixams News to confirm their acceptance of the prize and submit the information in within 14 days of being notified by Wixams News, then the prize will be forfeited, and we will be entitled to select another winner in accordance with the process described above.
Wixams News does not accept any responsibility if the winner is not able to take up their prize.
Transfer of Rights / Consent
By submitting a photo, you irrevocably transfer to Wixams News and their associated companies simple usage rights without time or geographical limitation for the competition and associated PR activities. This includes in particular the publication, reproduction, illustration and publishing of the photo for the purpose of advertising within the context of the competition. This consent includes specifically the use of the submitted photo for:
- illustration in publications and press reporting in any kind of media on the competition; and
- information in Wixams News and their associated websites, and on their social networks.
Where practical, your name and age will be shared alongside your photo when used – for example, as a caption with your photo.
As photos could be shared on social networks, such photos can then be re-shared anywhere. By submitting a photo, you consent that anyone is permitted to re-share your photo on social networks.
Rights to the Photo and Rights of Third Parties
By submitting a photo, you confirm that you are the creator of the submitted photo and have unlimited copyright and usage rights to it.
By submitting a photo, you confirm that the photo does not infringe any applicable laws (e.g. infringing copyright or showing forbidden content) or third party rights, in particular personal rights of people shown in the selfie (e.g. the content of the photo, title or caption is defamatory or humiliating, or the photo was submitted with bad intention such as to mob or bully people).
By submitting a photo, you confirm that you have obtained consent from all individuals recognisably shown in the selfie, to the use of said photo as well from anyone holding the rights on the trademarks or on the art pieces possibly portrayed in the selfie (to the extent required).
You shall hold Wixams News and their associated companies harmless with respect to any third-party claims arising from and in connection with the use of the photo as stipulated in these conditions of participation regardless of legal basis.
No consideration
You will not receive any compensation or fee for the provision of the photo or any other information provided with your submission.
General Provisions
Wixams News does not accept responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.
Wixams News reserves the right to interrupt or terminate the competition at any time, or to change the conditions of participation without prior announcement and without stating its reasons. Wixams News will exercise this right in particular if continuing to conduct the competition cannot be guaranteed for technical or legal reasons.
Wixams News reserves the right to make changes to the procedure and event dates for the competition.
If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these conditions of participation, Wixams News, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.
The competition and these conditions of participation are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Data Privacy
The photo and the submitted information will be stored and processed by Wixams News in accordance with these conditions of participation and our Privacy Policy. In case of discrepancies or contradictions between these conditions of participation and the Privacy Policy, these conditions of participation shall prevail.
The data is collected, processed and stored to enable Wixams News to conduct the competition and perform publicity in respect thereof as well as related activities as described in these conditions of participation.
Your photo and, if you have provided consent by ticking the box on the submission form, your first name and age will be made public and be fully visible as described in these conditions of participation.
Wixams News will not store or use any of the data submitted for marketing communication purposes unless the participant indicates otherwise (i.e. signs up to the mailing list at the same time as entry).
Limitation of liability
Insofar as is permitted by law, Wixams News and its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize, except where it is caused by the negligence of Wixams News and its agents or distributors.
